Emory & Henry Women’s Soccer Shuts Out Bluefield College, 1-0, At Home Thursday

EMORY, Va. – The Emory & Henry College Women's Soccer Team (1-0) only scored one goal in their season opener Thursday, but that's all the Wasps needed to shut out Bluefield College (0-1) at Fred Selfe Stadium.

Junior midfielder Kellie Flaherty (South Lake, Texas) put Emory & Henry on the board in the 36th minute when she floated a shot from 30 yards out past the keeper.

Though Bluefield outshot E&H eight to seven in the match, senior Hayley Poland (Mechanicsville, Va.) and sophomore Sarah Jerome (Charlotte, N.C.) combined to earn the shutout for the homestanding Wasps. Poland made four saves on the night while Jerome had a stop of her own.

Bluefield was led by Courtney Pattison with four shots including two on frame while Tracy Muncy snagged five saves despite taking the loss in goal.

Emory & Henry will take to the highway for a five match road swing beginning Sunday at 4:00 p.m., when the Wasps vist the Pacers of Peace College in Raleigh, N.C.
