Emory & Henry Women’s Soccer Defeats LaGrange, 1-0, Saturday On The Road

LaGRANGE, Ga. – The Emory & Henry College Women's Soccer Team (3-0) picked up a 1-0 victory Saturday afternoon, defeating LaGrange College (1-3) on the road.

Just 4:23 into the contest, sophomore forward Bethany Myer (Hickory, N.C.) took a pass from senior midfielder Alison Azbell (Morganton, N.C.) and placed it past the keeper for her third goal of the year.

The early score for the Wasps would be enough as the teams battled for the remaining 85-plus minutes without another goal being conceded.

Emory & Henry outshot LaGrange 11-5 and put eight shots on goal in the contest and held an 8-0 advantage on corner kicks.

Wasp goalkeepers senior Hayley Poland (Mechanicsville, Va.) and sophomore Sarah Jerome (Charlotte, N.C.) combined for the shutout, making three saves while the Panthers' Chelsea Totaro suffered the loss despite making seven saves.

Emory & Henry will continue its road trip on Sunday when the Wasps visit the Scotties of Agnes Scott College in Decatur, Ga. The match is set to begin at 1:00 p.m.
