Ferrum Women’s Soccer Hands E&H First Loss Of The Season, 2-1, Wednesday Night

FERRUM, Va. – The Ferrum College Women's Soccer Team (2-3) picked up a 2-1 win in a tight match Wednesday evening as they handed Emory & Henry College (4-1) its first loss of the season.

Ferrum drew first blood early in the 36th minute as LaQuinta Garrett received a pass from Amber Lynch and chipped the goalkeeper for the first score of the contest.

Emory & Henry would equalize 12 minutes later as sophomore midfielder Ashlie Caldwell (Blue Ridge, Va.) found freshman midfielder Erica Merriman (Cornelius, N.C.) for her fifth goal of the season. The tie score would go into the intermission.

Ferrum scored the go-ahead goal in the 63rrd minute as Garrett this time was on the giving end of the assist. Garret served a ball to Brittany Baker that she placed past the keeper, giving the Panthers a 2-1 lead that they would carry to the win.

Caitlyn Deaton picked up the win in goal for Ferrum while E&H senior Hayley Poland (Mechanicsville, Va.) fell to 4-1 with the loss.

Emory & Henry will return home for its ODAC-opener against Bridgewater College on Saturday at 2:00 p.m.
