Bridgewater Women’s Soccer Shuts Out Emory & Henry, 4-0, Saturday

EMORY, Va. – The Bridgewater College Women's Soccer Team (6-1, 1-0 ODAC) handed Emory & Henry College (4-2, 0-1 ODAC) its first shutout of the season, as the Eagles blanked the Wasps 4-0 Saturday at Fred Selfe Stadium.

Just 2:40 into the contest, Bridgewater's Mari Marotta dribbled through the defense to tally the first score of the game. Marotta was on the giving end of the next goal, as Brittany Harris scored early in the 19thh minute.

The Eagles would add another score before the half and tack on their fourth and final goal just after the hour mark. Bridgewater held a 22-5 lead on shots in the contest.

BC goalkeeper Mackenzie Gates picked up the win. E&H senior goalkeeper Hayley Poland (Mechanicsville, Va.) tallied six saves while sophomore goalkeeper Sarah Jerome (Charlotte, N.C.) had three saves of their own.

Emory & Henry will return to the pitch on Wednesday afternoon when the Wasps host Guilford College at 4:30 p.m.
