Randolph-Macon Women's Soccer Gets Past Emory & Henry, 2-1, Saturday

EMORY, Va. - The Randolph-Macon College Women's Soccer Team (6-4-1, 4-2-0 ODAC) picked up an ever important win in Old Dominion Athletic Conference play Saturday afternoon as the Yellow Jackets defeated the Emory & Henry College Wasps (6-5-1, 2-4-1 ODAC) at Fred Selfe Stadium by a 2-1 score.

Emory & Henry struck first, earning a penalty kick in just the fourth minute of play. Freshman forward Erica Merriman (Cornelius, N.C.) tallied her team-leading seventh goal of the season as she converted the penalty.

Just forty seconds later, the Yellow Jackets got to sing their own version of the same song. R-MC was awarded a penalty kick at the 4:20 mark of the contest. Megan Calabrese made the best of her opportunity, and tied the match at one.

Both teams battled for opportunities for the rest of the half, but the period would end in a 1-1 tie.

After the break, a botched clear by Emory & Henry resulted in an own goal, putting Randolph-Macon up 2-1 in the contest, a lead it would hold until full time was reached.

Emory & Henry will travel to Rocky Mount, N.C. on Sunday to take on the Battling Bishops of North Carolina Wesleyan College in non-conference action. Kickoff for the contest is set for 4:00 p.m.
