Emory & Henry Women’s Soccer Blanks Ferrum, 2-0, Wednesday Evening

EMORY, Va. – The Emory & Henry College Women's Soccer Team (1-1) picked up a 2-0 victory over Ferrum College (1-1) Wednesday evening at Fred Selfe Stadium. It was the first victory for Head Coach Linda Schirmeister-Gess, who took over the E&H program during the off-season.

The Wasps got on the board in the 38th minute when junior forward Bethany Myer (Hickory, N.C.) dribbled through the box and put the ball past the goalkeeper on the near side. The score would remain 1-0 through the first half.

With 32:05 remaining in the match, junior midfielder Ashlie Caldwell (Roanoke, Va.) struck a shot from the left side of the 18-yard box to put E&H up by a 2-0 score.

E&H junior Sarah Jerome (Charlotte, N.C.) picked up the shutout in goal for the Wasps, stopping five shots while Caitlyn Deaton had two saves for Ferrum.

Emory & Henry will visit Maryville (Tenn.) College on Saturday afternoon at 2:30 p.m.
