Bridgewater Women’s Soccer Too Much For Emory & Henry

BRIDGEWATER, Va. – The Bridgewater College Women's Soccer Team (6-2-1, 3-0-1 ODAC) got three goals from Paxton Sauerwald en route to a 6-0 victory over Emory & Henry College (2-6, 1-2-0 ODAC) Saturday afternoon in Old Dominion Athletic Conference play.

"We started off well with large portions of possession, but couldn't complete the final pass. We possessed well in patches later in the match as well, but didn't ever pose a huge threat with our attack," said E&H Head Coach Linda Schirmeister-Gess. "Their counter attack found us wrong-footed twice in succession and they were able to get goals via clinical finishing. They got the result they deserved, but our defense was outstanding despite with the result may say."

Bridgewater got on the board in the 11th minute, on an unassisted goal from Ashley Crossman as she finished a ball that rebounded off the goalkeeper.

Sauerwald scored her first goal at the 37:17 mark as she took a pass from Abby Dehoff and put it in the back of the net. Her second goal came early in the second half on an unassisted play, and she capped off the hat trick on a pass from Anna Theisen with 8:38 remaining in the contest.

Also scoring for the Eagles were Mari Marotta and Melanie Waters.

The Emory & Henry goalkeeping tandem of juniors Sarah Jerome (Charlotte, N.C.) and Hillary Carter (Culpeper, Va.) made eight saves on the day. The Wasps got a scoring opportunity from junior defender Kasey Simmons (Chesapeake, Va.) as she led E&H in shots.

Emory & Henry will travel to Roanoke, Va. on Wednesday to face off against Hollins University. Kickoff is set for 4:00 p.m.
