No. 13 Virginia Wesleyan Women’s Soccer Defeats Emory & Henry, 5-1, Friday Evening

EMORY, Va. – The No. 13 Virginia Wesleyan College Women's Soccer Team (10-0-1, 5-0-1 ODAC) picked up a 5-1 victory over Emory & Henry College (3-7, 2-4 ODAC) Friday evening in Old Dominion Athletic Conference action at Fred Selfe Stadium.

The Marlins got on the board just three minutes into the game as Breanne Ingargiola got an unassisted goal. VWC made the score 2-0 at the 16:40 mark as Angel Horowitz scored on a header.

With 6:42 remaining before the break, Kaitlyn Clunan dribbled down the left side of the field past the keeper for the goal.

After the break, the Marlins added a fourth goal on a cross from  Kerry Knauss to Jessica Edleman in frnt of the frame. Just past the hour mark, Ingargiola got her second goal of the game to put Virginia Wesleyan up by a 5-0 score.

Emory & Henry avoided the shutout as junior forward Bethany Myer (Hickory, N.C.) took a vertical pass and dribbled through the last line of the defense to score.

Virginia Wesleyan's Erica Keil picked up the win in goal while E&H junior Sarah Jerome (Charlotte, N.C.) made 11 saves on the night.

The Marlins held a 24-10 advantage on the shot chart and were called offside 19 times in the match.

The Wasps will travel to Lynchburg College on Tuesday evening for a 6:00 p.m., match against the Hornets.
