Roanoke Women's Soccer Defeats Emory & Henry, 2-0, Tuesday Evening

EMORY, Va. - The Roanoke College Women's Soccer Team (8-4-1, 6-2 ODAC) picked up a 2-0 Old Dominion Athletic Conference victory over Emory & Henry College (3-10, 2-7 ODAC) Tuesday evening at Fred Selfe Stadium.

Roanoke avenged last season's 1-0 loss to E&H, which was the Wasps' first win over the Maroons since the 2005 season.

RC scored twice early in the contest as Rebekah Adams (12:43) and Carmen Graves (17:14) each found the back of the net.

After the initial 20 minutes of play, the Emory & Henry defense settled in and was able to hold off any other chances that Roanoke would take at the frame.

Though RC outshot E&H, 21-5, in the match, the Wasps' back line held steady for much of the contest, with the Maroons being called for 11 offside violations.

Emory & Henry got offensive chances from junior Kasey Simmons (Chesapeake, Va.), junior Bethany Myer (Hickory, N.C.) and senior Yancey Wilmoth (Old Fort, N.C.) and had many passes from the midfield that were just out of the forwards' reach.

Junior Hillary Carter (Culpeper, Va.) made the most of her first career start as she had a career-high 11 saves in the match for the Wasps. Roanoke goalkeeper Carolyn Sarbacher picked up the shutout win as she made three saves.

Emory & Henry will remain at home on Saturday as it faces Randolph College. The Wasps and WildCats will kick off at 2:00 p.m., in ODAC play.
