GREENSBORO, N.C. – The Emory & Henry College Women's Soccer Team (6-10, 5-7 ODAC) picked up a 3-2 win over Guilford College (4-15, 3-9 ODAC) Wednesday evening at the Armfield Athletic Center. With the victory, the Wasps clinch the #8 seed in the 2012 Old Dominion Athletic Conference Tournament.

Emory & Henry got on the board at the 8:45 mark of the first half. Sophomore midfielder Erica Merriman (Cornelius, N.C.) took a pass through the middle of the box from freshman midfielder Blair Vaughn (Gate City, Va.) and placed it in the corner of the net.

The Wasps made the score 2-0 with 9:43 to go before the break. Junior forward Bethany Myer (Hickory, N.C.) earned the ball off a turnover and beat the goalkeeper at the top of the 18-yard box for the score.

Guilford cut the lead to 2-1 three-and-a-half minutes later (39:48). Sarah Levitt took a throw down the left touch line and dribbled into the box, scoring to the right side of the frame. The contest would go into halftime with a 2-1 score.

After the break, Emory & Henry pushed its lead to 3-1 in the 53rd minute. Sophomore midfielder Sarah Gorenflo (Matthews, N.C.) crossed a ball from the right side that found the foot of junior midfielder Ashlie Caldwell (Roanoke, N.C.), who one-timed it into the net.

With 9:13 remaining in the contest, Guilford got a goal to trim the margin to 3-2. Caroline Bishop played a ball across the face of the goal that Levitt finished for her second score of the match. The Quakers had an opportunity to tie things up with 24 seconds remaining, but the Wasps' goalkeeper turned it away.

Guilford held a 20-17 advantage in shots but Emory & Henry forced the Quakers into 20 offside calls.

Emory & Henry junior goalkeeper Sarah Jerome (Charlotte, N.C.) made nine saves in the contest while GC's Miriam Rosenbaum tallied eight saves.

Emory & Henry will next take the field in the 2012 ODAC Tournament on Saturday afternoon. The Wasps will travel to face the Marlins of Virginia Wesleyan College. Kickoff for the contest will be announced on Thursday.
