Emory & Henry Women’s Soccer Nets Two On All-ODAC Third Team

FOREST, Va. – The Emory & Henry College Women's Soccer Team has seen two of its players named to the All-Old Dominion Athletic Conference teams, ODAC officials announced Thursday. It is the first time since 2006 that an E&H player has been selected to the all-conference team. The teams are voted on by the league's 13 head coaches.

Junior forward Erica Merriman (Cornelius, N.C.) and freshman defender Willow Hubbard (Asheville, N.C.) are the honorees for the Wasps. The last Wasp to be selected as All-ODAC was defender Julianne Strauss during the 2006 season. Strauss was named to the second team.

Merriman, a three-year starter for E&H, finished with the team lead in points (nine) and assists (three). She also scored three goals during the year including the match-winner in the 109th minute against Sweet Briar College. For her career, Merriman has scored 18 goals including four match-winners and has added four assists for a total of 40 points.

Hubbard stepped into a vital role for Emory & Henry, starting 14 of 18 games at the centerback position. She helped provide an anchor to the Wasps' defense, turning away attackers and clearing out crosses that threatened to provide scoring opportunities. Hubbard is one of two freshman defenders honored by the league's coaches this season.

Emory & Henry finished the year with a 4-12-2 overall record and a 4-6-2 mark in ODAC play. Five of the Wasps' losses on the year were by a single goal as they played one of the toughest schedules in the league, facing two teams that qualified for the NCAA Tournament.
