EMORY, Va. – With the conclusion of the 2014 FIFA World Cup and Germany's 1-0 victory over Argentina in the final, third-year Emory & Henry College Head Women's Soccer Coach Linda Schirmeister-Gess is pleased to announce the Wasps' slate of 18 matches for this fall. E&H has split its schedule equally this year, with nine matches coming at home and another nine on the road.
Emory & Henry will open the season with a pair of contests on the campus of Maryville (Tenn.) College. The Wasps will take on the Maryville Scots on Friday, August 29 and will face the Lions of Piedmont College on Saturday, August 30. The season-opening road trip concludes with a match at Bluefield College on Tuesday, September 2.
Emory & Henry makes its home debut in 2014 in a four-match home stand beginning with the inaugural Wasps Classic. The tournament is a three-day, six-team event held in conjunction with the E&H men's team.
The Wasps will take the field first against Covenant College on Friday, Sept. 5 at 7:30 p.m., and will host Marymount University on Sunday, Sept. 7 at 11:00 a.m. This will be followed by a non-conference match against Ferrum College on Wednesday, Sept. 10 before the ODAC opener against perennial power Virginia Wesleyan College on Saturday, Sept. 13 at 1:00 p.m. All four of these matches will be doubleheaders with the Emory & Henry men.
Three of the next four matches will be played on the road – at Lynchburg College (Fri., Sept. 19), at Bridgewater (Sat., Sept. 27) and at Hollins (Tue., Sept. 30) – with the lone home match coming against Roanoke College on Tuesday, September 23 at 5:00 p.m.
The Wasps will next take the field at Fred Selfe Stadium on Sunday, October 5 when they host the WildCats of Randolph College at 2:00 p.m. The contest will take place as part of the College's Family Weekend. A home match against Sweet Briar College on Wednesday, October 8 at 7:30 p.m. will note the beginning of Fall Break.
Three-straight ODAC road contests await Emory & Henry as it will travel to Randolph-Macon College (Sat., Oct. 11), Shenandoah University (Sat., Oct. 18) and Guilford College (Wed., Oct. 22). The matches with Randolph-Macon and Guilford will be doubleheaders with the E&H men.
The Wasps conclude the 2014 regular season with a pair of home matches. Emory & Henry will take on Eastern Mennonite University on Sunday, October 26 at 2:00 p.m., concluding the College's Homecoming weekend festivities. E&H will host Washington and Lee University in a doubleheader at 5:00 p.m., on Wednesday, Oct. 29.
The 2014 ODAC Women's Soccer Tournament will take the top eight teams from the regular season with the Quarterfinals on Saturday, November 1 at the highest four seeds. The semifinals will be played on Wednesday, November 5 with the final taking place on Saturday, November 8.
