Bridgewater Women’s Soccer Defeats Emory & Henry, 8-0, Saturday In ODAC Action

BRIDGEWATER, Va. – The Bridgewater College Women's Soccer Team (8-2, 3-1 ODAC) picked up an 8-0 Old Dominion Athletic Conference win over Emory & Henry College (1-8, 0-4 ODAC) Saturday afternoon. The Eagles were paced in the win by Julia Baca's second-half hat trick.

After the first 20 minutes of the contest went scoreless, Bridgewater got on the board late in the 21st minute. Receiving a pass from Michelle Viegas, Keri Rager went one-on-one with the goalkeeper to go up 1-0. The Eagles kept the pressure on as Rager added a second goal less than a minute later.

Emory & Henry got its first chance in the 26th minute on a strike by junior midfielder Blair Vaughn (Gate City, Va.), but it was turned away by the Bridgewater goalkeeper.

With 11:05 to go before the break, BC made the tally 3-0 thanks to a goal by Kelly Patterson, who was assisted on the play by Alli Shaffer.

Just after the halftime break ended, Baca put Bridgewater up 4-0 with her first score. She added tallies in the 54th and 57th minutes for the hat trick. The Eagles would put two more past for the final 8-09 margin.

With time ticking down, it looked as if the Wasps would spoil the shutout. Freshman midfielder Daishi Dudley (Rocky Mount, Va.) put an attempt on frame for E&H, but it was turned away.

Bridgewater held a 35-4 advantage on shots and earned 15 corner kicks in the contest. The Eagles had 11 different attacks halted due to offside calls.

Three BC goalkeepers combined to earn the shutout while Wasp sophomore Vicki Fenley (Chesapeake, Va.) made 10 saves in the setback.

Emory & Henry will remain on the road on Tuesday when it travels to Roanoke for an ODAC contest with Hollins University. Kickoff is scheduled for 4:00 p.m.
