Ferrum Women’s Soccer Tops Emory & Henry, 1-0, Wednesday Evening

FERRUM, Va. – The Ferrum College Women's Soccer Team (4-0) remained perfect on the year as it claimed a 1-0 win over visiting Emory & Henry College (0-3-1) Wednesday evening at Penn-Roediger Field.

The Panthers threatened several times between the 20th and 26th minutes but Emory & Henry sophomore goalkeeper Kayla Wright (Franklin County, Va.) made four saves to keep them off the board.

FC struck at the 37:04 mark as Morgan Funck served a ball to Chloe Hudson for what would be the only goal of the game.

Emory & Henry had a chance just over five minutes before the half to equalize on a shot by sophomore defender Madison Vaughn (Gate City, Va.) but it was saved by the goalkeeper.

The opening 10 minutes of the second half went back and forth as both teams had chances on goal but the goalkeepers stayed strong to keep the score 1-0 in favor of Ferrum.

The Panthers attempted to add to their score with two shot on goal in the final 10 minutes of play, but were unable to get past Wright. E&H had its last chance in the final minute of play however senior midfielder Emily Belanger's (Tampa, Fla.) shot went wide as the final score remained, 1-0.

Ferrum held a 17-9 advantage on shots and put 10 of their chances on frame compared to three for Emory & Henry. The Panthers also led 5-1 on corner kicks, but were forced offside once by the Wasps' defense.

FC's Chelsea Wingate and Hannah Stacy combined for the shutout while Wright made nine saves for Emory & Henry in the match.

E&H returns home on Saturday at 4:00 p.m., for a non-conference matchup against Greensboro College.
