Greensboro Women’s Soccer Defeats Emory & Henry, 2-0, Saturday Afternoon

EMORY, Va. – The Greensboro College Women's Soccer Team (3-1) picked up a 2-0 non-conference win over Emory & Henry College (0-4-1) Saturday afternoon at Fred Selfe Stadium.

The Pride got out to a quick start, scoring just 2:14 into the contest. Gabbriele Edinger put a cross in from the right side and found the feet of Meghan Cole for her fourth goal of the season.

Later in the half, Greensboro added its second tally to increase the lead to 2-0. The Pride had a breakaway opportunity on goal but the final Wasp defender was able to get ahead and break up the play. The defense was found to be too aggressive and a penalty kick was awarded. Melanie Raton converted the try in the 25th minute.

As the half progressed, Emory & Henry's offense began to come together, but the Greensboro defense was always in position to thwart the Wasps' chances. The Pride would take the 2-0 score into the half.

The second 45 minutes was much like the closing 15 minutes of the first half with periods of possession and chances on goal for both teams, but there would be no further scoring in the contest. E&H sophomore goalkeeper Kayla Wright (Franklin County, Va.) made three saves in the second half to keep GC from adding to its margin.

The two squads tied for shots in the match with 11 each while Greensboro led 6-2 on corner kicks. Wasp junior forward Emily Welch (Pamplin, Va.) tallied a pair of shots on goal on the afternoon.

Emory & Henry will return to action on Wednesday when it hosts William Peace University at 5:00 p.m.
