Randolph-Macon Women’s Soccer Defeats Emory & Henry, 2-0, Saturday In ODAC Action

EMORY, Va. – The Randolph-Macon College Women's Soccer Team (4-2, 1-0 ODAC) picked up a 2-0 victory in Old Dominion Athletic Conference play over Emory & Henry College (1-5-1, 0-1 ODAC) Saturday morning at Fred Selfe Stadium.

E&H had the first two opportunities to score as senior midfielder Emily Belanger (Tampa, Fla.) squared up a shot at the 2:54 mark and freshman forward Sarah Safrit (China Grove, N.C.) put an attempt on frame 16 minutes in, but the R-MC goalkeeper kept it out of the net.

The Yellow Jackets got on the board early in the 18th minute to make the score 1-0. After earning a free kick 20 yards out on the right side of the field, Sam Tyler stepped into the ball and curled it inside the near post.

Early in the second half it appeared as is Emory & Henry would equalize, but the Wasps' midfield and forwards were unable to connect. E&H sophomore goalkeeper Kayla Wright (Franklin County, Va.) bade a pair of strong saves midway through the final 45 minutes to keep the margin 1-0.

With time running down, Randolph-Macon's Jena Turner added a goal, finishing a loose ball inside the box to the near side. The score put the Yellow Jackets up 2-0 with just over 12 minutes left to play, a score that would hold for the final margin.

R-MC held a 16-7 advantage on shots in the contest, putting seven attempts on frame to two for Emory & Henry. The Wasps led 3-0 on corner kicks and forced the Yellow Jackets into three offside calls.

Elizabeth Blanco earned the shutout win for Randolph-Macon, making two saves while Wright stopped five shots despite the loss for E&H.

Emory & Henry will be back in action on Tuesday afternoon when it travels to face Sweet Briar College in a non-conference contest. Kickoff is set for 4:00 p.m.
