Emory & Henry Women’s Soccer Rolls Past Sweet Briar, 6-0, Tuesday Afternoon

SWEET BRIAR, Va. – The Emory & Henry College Women's Soccer Team (2-5-1) earned its second win in three matches as it defeated Sweet Briar College (0-5) by a 6-0 score at Babcock Field. The six goals scored by the Wasps were the most since they put eight past Hollins University during the 2014 season.

After nearly a half-hour of scoreless play to open the match, E&H got on the board at the 29:36 mark. Senior midfielder Blair Vaughn (Gate City, Va.) put a ball across the face of the goal to freshman midfielder Gillian Hogg (Richmond, Va.) who finished it into the back of the net.

Less than two minutes later, Vaughn went over the top with a pass to sophomore midfielder Christina Ameen (Sweetwater, Tenn.), who outran the Vixens' back line and finished.

Emory & Henry made the score 3-0 late in the 37th minute. Sophomore defender Clarissa Martin (Raleigh, N.C.) went past a player outside the box and dribbled in to score. Hogg would earn the assist for the goal.

The Wasps got another goal with 4:16 to go before the half as Ameen scored her second of the afternoon. After receiving a pass at the top of the box from freshman defender Kori Potter (Wirtz, Va.), Ameen ripped a shot to the top-right corner of the goal past the SBC keeper.

In the second half junior midfielder Sam Sampson (Salem, Va.) got into the action with a finish from long range, assisted by junior defender Willow Hubbard (Asheville, N.C.) in the 67th minute. Hogg capped the scoring with 8:50 left to play, with freshman defender Lauren Fleming (Troutville, Va.) getting credit for the assist.

The Wasps held a 27-2 advantage on shots in the match including a 20-1 margin on shots on goal. Emory & Henry also led 9-0 on corner kicks.

Freshman goalkeeper Kieran Liseski (Mooresville, N.C.) earned the complete-game shutout for E&H.

Emory & Henry will be back in action on Saturday when it travels to face Randolph College at 1:00 p.m., in Old Dominion Athletic Conference action.
