Emory & Henry Women’s Soccer Battles Bridgewater To A Scoreless Draw At Home Tuesday

EMORY, Va. – The Emory & Henry College Women's Soccer Team (2-6-2, 0-2-1 ODAC) battled for 110 minutes with Bridgewater College (5-4-1, 2-1-1 ODAC) to a 0-0 tie at a rainy Fred Selfe Stadium Tuesday evening in Old Dominion Athletic Conference action.

It was the first time since the 2006 season, when the Wasps defeated the Eagles by a 3-1 score, that E&H has earned points in their ODAC matchup with Bridgewater. BC was voted by the 12 head coaches in the league to finish in third place during the regular season this year.

Emory & Henry sophomore goalkeeper Kayla Wright (Franklin County, Va.) made 10 saves on 25 shots faced to earn the complete-game shutout. She made five saves in the opening 45 minutes, stopped three shots in the second half and added a save in each of the two extra periods.

The majority of Bridgewater's attempts on goal were easily corralled by Wright even through the intermittent downpours and slippery conditions. Emory & Henry's defense also played a big role in the shutout, blocking four shots.  Sophomore defender Clarissa Martin (Raleigh, N.C.) made a standout play in the 81st minute, stopping a shot at the back post for a team save.

While E&H struggled to get its offense going against the favored Bridgewater side, posting just one shot on goal during the contest, the team as a whole performed solidly under pressure for a well-earned result.

The Eagles had 10 corner kicks during the match as well and were called offside three times in the opening 20 minutes of play. BC's Hayley Talbott also earned a shutout in her 110 minutes in goal.

Emory & Henry will make the long trip across the Commonwealth this weekend to face off against Virginia Wesleyan College on Saturday morning in another key ODAC matchup. Kickoff between the Wasps and Marlins is scheduled for 11:00 a.m.
