Roanoke Women’s Soccer Gets Past Emory & Henry, 2-0, Wednesday Evening

SALEM, Va. – The Roanoke College Women's Soccer Team (7-5-1, 4-4 ODAC) scored a goal in each half en route to a 2-0 win over visiting Emory & Henry College (2-9-2, 0-5-1 ODAC) Wednesday in Old Dominion Athletic Conference action.

The Maroons got on the board just after the half-hour mark (32:48) as Courtney Yoke found Emily Whitaker, who placed the ball into the right side of the net.

In the 54th minute, Roanoke made its lead 2-0. Taylor Sayegh slotted a ball into the right-hand side of the goal with Whitaker on the assisting end of the goal.

Though RC controlled the possession and flow of the match, Emory & Henry had several chances to break into the scoring column. Senior Emily Belanger (Tampa, Fla.) notched a shot on goal from her the central defense, playing out of her normal position in the midfield due to injuries.

Wasp sophomore goalkeeper Kayla Wright (Franklin County, Va.) made six saves on a total of 21 shots faced while Sarah Dvorak earned the 90-minute shutout for Roanoke.

The Maroons held a 6-0 advantage on corner kicks but was also called offside four different times in the match thanks to a diligent back line for E&H.

Emory & Henry will return home this weekend for a pair of matches. The Wasps will host Hollins University on Saturday night at 7:30 p.m., following the Homecoming football game. The match will also serve as Senior Day for E&H, who will honor its players in their final year wearing blue-and-gold.
