Emory & Henry Women’s Soccer Handles Hollins, 13-1, Saturday On Senior Night

EMORY, Va. – The Emory & Henry College Women's Soccer Team (3-9-2, 1-5-1 ODAC) earned its first Old Dominion Athletic Conference win of the season with a 13-1 dismantling of visiting Hollins University (0-13, 0-7 ODAC) Saturday night at Fred Selfe Stadium. Emory & Henry's 13 goals on the evening were the most since a 13-1 win over Mary Baldwin College in the second game of the 2008 season.

The contest also served as Senior Night for the Wasps who honored their five players competing in their final season wearing the blue-and-gold.

Emory & Henry got on the board just 43 seconds into the game as sophomore forward Christina Ameen (Sweetwater, Tenn.). The goal tied for the fastest in recent memory as senior Emily Belanger (Tampa, Fla.) notched a score at the same mark at home against Randolph College in 2014.

The Wasps added seven more scores in the opening half for an 8-0 lead. Sophomore midfielder Daishi Dudley (Rocky Mount, Va.) scored back-to-back in the 23rd and 28th minutes for her first two goals of the year. Freshman forward Sarah Safrit (China Grove, N.C.) concluded the half with back-to-back scores of her own.

E&H made it 10-0 in the opening five minutes of the second half as senior midfielder Blair Vaughn (Gate City, Va.) and freshman forward Gillian Hogg (Richmond, Va.) got on the board.

In the 60th minute, Hollins' Christina Havrila spoiled the shutout taking a pass from Kally Saffer and slotting it past the goalkeeper to make the score 11-1.

Two more goals for Emory & Henry would follow including the final score with 5:43 to play as Safrit notched her third score of the game for the hat trick.

Wasp sophomore goalkeeper Kayla Wright (Franklin County, Va.) earned the win in goal, playing the first 45 minutes.

Emory & Henry will have a quick turnaround before its next match and will host Shenandoah University at Fred Selfe Stadium on Sunday afternoon at 3:00 p.m.
