Shenandoah Women’s Soccer Shuts Out Emory & Henry, 3-0, Sunday Afternoon

EMORY, Va. – The Shenandoah University Women's Soccer Team (9-6, 6-1 ODAC) earned its ninth win in 10 matches Sunday afternoon with a 3-0 victory over Emory & Henry College (3-10-2, 1-6-1 ODAC) at Fred Selfe Stadium.

The Hornets got on the board late in the 24th minute as Jennifer Nguyen headed a loose ball inside the box off of a corner kick past the goalkeeper.

Shenandoah made the score 2-0 at the 37:44 mark. Taylor Potter served a ball from the right side to the back post where Danielle Burris was waiting to slot it home for her fourth score of the season.

SU would take the 2-0 lead into the intermission.

Just 11 minutes after play resumed, the Hornets added a third goal. Burris made it two on the day, but this time, she crashed the net cleaning up a rebound off of a save. Dornesha Cottoms was credited with the assist.

The Wasps had a pair of chances late, but were unable to break down the Shenandoah back line as the final score would hold, 3-0.

As a team, SU held a 22-2 advantage on shots, putting 12 of its attempts on goal. The Hornets also led, 8-1 on corner kicks but were called offside on five different occasions in the match.

Shenadoah goalkeepers Erin Septer and Nicole Pratt combined for the shutout with Septer earning the win. E&H sophomore Kayla Wright (Franklin County, Va.) made eight saves, despite taking the loss.

Emory & Henry will travel to Harrisonburg, Virginia next Saturday for a 4:00 p.m., ODAC match against Eastern Mennonite University.
