EMORY, Va. – The Emory & Henry College Women's Soccer Team, under the direction of first-year Head Coach McCallie Jones, has released its schedule for the upcoming season. This year, the Wasps will play 18 matches with 10 contests in the ever-challenging Old Dominion Athletic Conference.
"I am very excited to see what this team is capable of this fall," said Jones. "Our non-conference schedule will be a good test of our abilities, and we hope to grow from each game heading into our first ODAC faceoff at the end of September."
E&H will open the season on Friday, September 1 at Averett University and remains on the road on Wednesday, September 6 and Sunday, September 10 against Milligan College and William Peace University, respectively.
The Wasps' first home contest is set for Wednesday, September 13, a 4:00 p.m. non-conference tie against Greensboro College. After a trip to Brevard College on Friday, September 15, Emory & Henry will host Penn State University-Worthington Scranton at 11:00 a.m., on Sunday, September 17.
"Beginning the season with only two home games will be a real test of our mental toughness, but I know the team is excited to get back and play no matter whose turf we're on," Jones added. "With our incoming freshmen and returning group, I feel that we have the players to get us in good standing for the ODAC Tournament this year."
Three-straight road games await E&H including the ODAC opener at Randolph College on Saturday, September 23.
Emory & Henry will have its only extended home stretch of the season between Saturday, September 30 and Saturday, October 7. The Wasps will play the Eagles of Bridgewater College following the football game on September 30 (6:00 p.m.). Wednesday, October 4 sees a 2:00 p.m. kickoff between E&H and Guilford College on the first day of Fall Break with the homestand concluding on October 7 against Sweet Briar (1:00 p.m.). The match against the Vixens will be the first of a doubleheader with the Wasps' men's soccer team.
Trips to Hollins University (Wed., Oct. 11) and Eastern Mennonite University (Fri., Oct. 13) set up a conference showdown against national powerhouse Lynchburg College at Fred Selfe Stadium on Wednesday, October 18 at 6:00 p.m.
Two more conference road matches against Virginia Wesleyan University (Sat., Oct. 21) and Washington and Lee University (Wed., Oct. 25) lead up to the regular season finale and Senior Day on Sunday, October 29 against Shenandoah University at 1:00 p.m.
The 2017 ODAC Women's Soccer Tournament will be played during the first week of November. The quarterfinals will be on Wednesday, November 1 with the semifinals and championship played on Saturday and Sunday, November 4 and 5, respectively.
