Asbury Women’s Soccer Escapes Emory & Henry, 1-0, Wednesday Night

EMORY, Va. – The Asbury University Women's Soccer Team (5-9-1) scored the lone goal of the match in the 14th minute on their way to a win over Emory & Henry College (7-3-2) Wednesday in a matchup between a pair of reclassifying schools. AU is moving from NAIA to NCAA Division III.

How It Happened
- The Eagles got on the board at the 13:32 mark of the contest as Delaney Long got a turnover from the defense inside the 18-yard box and put it in the back of the net.
- Asbury would have four more chances in the opening 45 minutes as it outshot Emory & Henry, 15-6.
- In the second, the Wasps settled in and had more of the momentum, outshooting the Eagles, 8-2. E&H threatened multiple times in the final 15 minutes but the 1-0 margin would hold as the final.

- Senior forward Callie McMurray (Gate City, Va.) led the Wasps with four shots, putting two on goal while freshman midfielder Olivia Haynes (Spotsylvania, Va.) had three shots.
- Sophomore goalkeeper Asia Baldwin (Mars Hill, N.C.) tallied four saves in her first collegiate start despite the loss.

Asbury Individual Leaders
- Elizabeth Sparks posted a match-high five shots while Long scored her goal on two attempts.
- Maliya Crump made four saves as she earned the shutout victory in goal.

- Emory & Henry will play its penultimate game of the season on Saturday evening at 7:00 p.m., when it hosts former Old Dominion Athletic Conference-rival Eastern Mennonite University.
