Converse Women’s Soccer Slips Past Emory & Henry, 1-0, Friday Evening

EMORY, Va. - The Emory & Henry College Women's Soccer Team (0-1-0) dropped a hard-fought battle in their season-opening match against the Valkyries of Converse University (2-2-0) on Friday night by a score of 1-0.

How It Happened
- Converse got on the board in the second minute of the contest, as an unlucky bounce in the box led to a penalty kick opportunity for the Valkyries. Kaylee Couder converted the kick from the spot to give Converse the 1-0 lead.
- The Wasps battled back as they turned up the pressure on the Valkyrie defense, but Converse held on to the 1-0 lead at the half.
- Emory & Henry maintained the majority of possession in the second half, creating more opportunities in the attacking third of the field and outshooting Converse 7-4 in the second stanza. The Wasps also earned four second half corner kicks compared to just one for the Valkyries.
- Senior midfielder Grace Williams (Earlysville, Va.) gave E&H its best chance of the evening in the 68th minute, striking a free kick that beat the goalkeeper but caromed off the crossbar.
- Converse consolidated their defense and was able to cling on for the 1-0 victory. 

Emory & Henry Individual Leaders
- Williams led the way offensively with five shots, three of which were on goal.
- Senior forward Amber Altice (Rocky Mount, Va.) also registered three shots with one finding the target.
- Senior goalkeeper Natalie Capone (Kannapolis, N.C.) recorded three saves in between the sticks to pace the defense. 

Converse Individual Leaders
- Six different Valkyries had shots in the game, four of which were on target.
- Daelynn Perry made four saves in goal for Converse en route to the shutout.
