Tusculum Women's Soccer Tops Emory & Henry, 5-1, Wednesday In SAC Play

EMORY, Va. - The Tusculum University Women's Soccer Team (7-3-3, 2-3-3 SAC) defeated Emory & Henry College (2-9, 0-8 SAC) in South Atlantic Conference action Wednesday evening. The Pioneers took the match by a 5-1 score.

How It Happened
- The Pioneers struck first as they converted on a corner kick just 70 seconds into the match. Marja Enste found the forehead of Ella Funderburk who slotted the ball into the net for an early 1-0 advantage. The Wasps would even things up in the 24th minute on a set piece goal of their own. Senior midfielder Grace Williams (Earlysville, Va.) put a ball into the Tusculum penalty area off of a corner kick that sophomore midfielder Olivia Haynes (Spotsylvania, Va.) headed in the direction of sophomore midfielder Lucy Dunlop (York, ENGLAND). Dunlop beat the Tusculum keeper to tie things at 1-1.
- Tusculum would quickly respond as Rosy Wodhams made it 2-1 in the 26th minute on an assist from Chayse Stonebraker and Brianna Garcia increased the lead to 3-1 in the 28th minute, assisted by Taylor Youmans. The 3-1 lead would hold until the halftime break.
- Wodhams struck again in the 60th minute on another set piece delivery from Enste to make the score 4-1 in favor of the Pioneers. Wodhams completed her hat-trick in the 68th minute as she converted from the penalty spot to run the score to its final at 5-1.

Emory & Henry Individual Leaders
- Dunlop scored the lone goal for the Wasps during the match as Williams and Haynes added an assist each. Williams also registered a shot on goal.
- Senior goalkeeper Natalie Capone (Kannapolis, N.C.) recorded six saves in net for E&H.

Tusculum Individual Leaders
- Wodhams led the Pioneers with her trio of goals while Garcia and Funderburk each added one. Enste had two assists in addition to helpers from Youmans and Stonebraker.
- Grayson Patterson and Emily Metaschk combined for the win in goal.

Up Next
- The Wasps will travel to Mars Hill, North Carolina. on Friday to face the Lions of Mars Hill University. The women will play match one of a doubleheader with the men's team. Kickoff is scheduled for 5:00 p.m.
