Emory & Henry Women’s Soccer Battles With Mars Hill To A 1-1 Draw Friday

MARS HILL, N.C. - The Emory & Henry College Women's Soccer Team (2-9-1, 0-8-1 SAC) made program history on Friday afternoon as they earned the school's first South Atlantic Conference point with a 1-1 draw against Mars Hill University (4-7-2, 1-6-2 SAC).

How It Happened
- The Lions struck first in just the third minute as Zoie Steinkamp followed up a shot off of the crossbar and put it in the back of the net for the 1-0 lead. The two squads would trade scoring opportunities, but the score remained 1-0 in favor of Mars Hill at the halftime whistle.
- Sophomore midfielder Olivia Haynes (Spotsylvania, Va.) evened things up in the 55th minute on an unassisted tally to level the score at 1-1. The Wasps continued to apply pressure on the Mars Hill defense as they fired multiple shots on goal. Neither team could find the tie-breaking score and the match ended in a 1-1 draw.

Emory & Henry Individual Leaders
- Hayes, sophomore midfielder Karlijn Keuters (The Hague, NETHERLANDS) and senior midfielder Helen Frazier (Vienna, Va.) all recorded two shots on goal with Hayes finding the back of the net. Junior forward Adrienne Harris (Hillsville, Va.) also had a shot that found the target.
- Senior goalkeeper Natalie Capone (Kannapolis, N.C.) led the Wasps defense with seven saves in between the sticks.

Mars Hill Individual Leaders
- Steinkamp registered the only goal for the Lions while Kenzie Quigley led Mars Hill with seven shots, four of which were on target.
- Camryn Miller and Victoria Forren combined for six saves in goal for the Lions.

- The Wasps return home on Wednesday for a midweek non-conference game against Bluefield State University. Kickoff is scheduled for 7:00 p.m.
