Bluefield State Women’s Soccer Escapes Emory & Henry, 1-0, Wednesday

EMORY, Va. - The Bluefield State University Women's Soccer Team (4-6-3) slipped past Emory & Henry College (2-10-1) in non-conference action on Wednesday night by a score of 1-0. With the victory, the Lady Blues avenged a 3-1 loss to the Wasps from early in the season.

How It Happened
- Both teams traded scoring opportunities through the opening minutes of the game, but the defenses were up to the task and the score remained 0-0 through the 20th minute. BSU won a free kick in the E&H defensive end of the field and Kira Zoeller gave the Lady Blues the 1-0 as she converted the dead ball opportunity. The Wasps continued to pressure the BSU back line but the score would remain 1-0 at the halftime whistle. 
- E&H started the second stanza on the front foot, as they pressed the Bluefield State defense and created scoring chances that were turned back. Both defenses held up and the teams were held scoreless in the second half, resulting in the 1-0 final score.

Emory & Henry Individual Leaders
- Senior midfielder Helen Frazier (Vienna, Va.) led the offensive attack with three shots, two of which found the target. Fellow senior Grace Williams (Earlysville, Va.) had two shots that both were on frame while classmate Amber Altice (Rocky Mount, Va.) fired a shot on goal as well. 
- Senior goalkeeper Natalie Capone (Kannapolis, N.C.) led the defensive effort for the Wasps with four saves in net.

Bluefield State Individual Leaders
- Zoeller scored the lone goal of the evening for the Lady Blues.
- Rylee Truslow made seven saves in goal for BSU, earning the shutout.

Up Next
- Emory & Henry returns to South Atlantic Conference play on Saturday when they play host to the Cobras of Coker University. Kickoff is scheduled for 3:30 p.m., as the second part of a doubleheader with the men's soccer team.
