Emory & Henry Women's Soccer Rallies To Defeat Salem, 2-1, In Season Finale Sunday

EMORY, Va. - The Emory & Henry College Women's Soccer Team (3-11-2, 0-9-2 SAC) earned a 2-1 Senior Day victory over Salem (W.Va.) University (3-9-3) on Sunday afternoon. The Wasps honored their 10 seniors prior to kickoff.

How It Happened
- The first half was an evenly-played affair with both teams creating chances. The Wasps outshot the Tigers in the opening period of play by a 9-5 margin but could not find the back of the net. E&H's best opportunity to score came in the 34th minute when a Maria Wilson (Bristol, Va.) header found the top woodwork. The game went into the halftime break all square at 0-0.
- The Tigers broke the deadlock in the 53rd minute when Oceane Deslauriers buried a shot for the 1-0 lead. The Wasps responded just five minutes later behind a goal from junior forward Adrienne Harris (Hillsville, Va.), assisted by senior midfielder Grace Williams (Earlysville, Va.) to even things at 1-1. E&H continued to apply the pressure as the contest remained even through 88 minutes. Sophomore midfielder Olivia Haynes (Spotsylvania, Va.) scored the deciding goal with 90 seconds remaining on a recycled corner kick for the eventual game-winning score.

Emory & Henry Individual Leaders
- Harris and Haynes accounted for the two goals for the Wasps in the victory. Haynes registered five shots in the match, four of which found their target. Harris, Williams, freshman forward Hailey Hamilton (Elkwood, Va.) and senior defender Carly Walden (Christiansburg, Va.) each fired a shot on target.
- Senior goalkeeper Natalie Capone (Kannapolis, N.C.) led the defensive effort for the Wasps with four saves in net. Adriana Rehg (Talbott, Tenn.) registered one save in relief of Capone.

Salem (W.Va.) Individual Leaders
- Deslauriers scored the lone goal of the afternoon for the Tigers. Marlena Mathes also registered a pair of shots on goal in the loss.
- Alexandra Issard made six saves in goal for Salem on the afternoon.
