Carson-Newman Women’s Soccer Pulls Away From Emory & Henry, 4-1, Wednesday Night

JEFFERSON CITY, Tenn. - The Emory & Henry College Women's Soccer Team (1-2-3, 0-1-1 SAC) saw its four-match unbeaten streak end on Wednesday evening as it fell to Carson-Newman University (2-3-1, 1-2 SAC) in South Atlantic Conference play. The Lady Eagles scored twice in the first half and twice more in the second to take the 4-1 decision.

How It Happened
- The two teams were held scoreless through the opening stages of the game until the Lady Eagles struck first in the 29th minute. Abbie Zander curled a left-footed shot into the top corner of the net to make it 1-0. Carson-Newman added a second in the 36th minute on a goal from Alba Delgado assisted by Felicia Frick to push their lead out to 2-0. The Wasps answered 67 seconds later as freshman midfielder Charlotte Stavis (Charlotte, N.C.) scored her first collegiate goal to trim the Lady Eagles' advantage to 2-1. The score would hold through the halftime break.
- Carson-Newman tacked on a third in the 72nd minute when Frick found Cameron Giles who banged a shot off of the crossbar and into the goal to give the home team a 3-1 lead. The Lady Eagles made it 4-1 in the 87th minute on Delgado's second goal of the night, this time assisted by Giles. C-N held on for the 4-1 victory. 

Emory & Henry Individual Leaders
- Stavis tallied the lone goal of the evening for the Wasps with her only shot. Junior midfielder Lucy Dunlop (York, ENGLAND) led E&H with a pair of attempts, one of which found the target. Five other Wasps recorded a shot in the loss.
- Sophomore Adriana Rehg (Talbott, Tenn.) made five saves in net for E&H.

Carson-Newman Individual Leaders
- Delgado led the Lady Eagles with a pair of goals on three shots while Giles had a goal and an assist. Frick finished with two assists and Zander posted a goal with her only shot of the game. 
- Danielle Lacy registered three saves for Carson-Newman. 

Up Next
- The Wasps return home to Fred Selfe Stadium on Sunday, September 24 to take on the Saints of Limestone University. Kickoff is scheduled for 1:00 p.m., as game one of a SAC doubleheader with the men's team.
