No. 22 Lenoir-Rhyne Women’s Soccer Tops Emory & Henry, 4-2, Wednesday Evening

EMORY, Va. - The Emory & Henry College Women's Soccer Team (2-5-3, 0-4-1 SAC) battled back from a four-goal deficit, but came up short against the No. 22 nationally-ranked Lenoir-Rhyne University (8-0-3, 6-0 SAC). The Bears scored four goals in the first half and held off a second-half Emory & Henry rally for a 4-2 victory.

How It Happened
- Lenoir-Rhyne struck first on the scoreboard in the 10th minute when Anna Schuller pivoted in the 18-yard box and found the back of the net to make it 1-0. The Bears doubled their lead in the 13th minute on an unassisted goal from Elin Hansson. Hansson posted her second tally of the night in the 19th minute of play on another unassisted goal to make it a 3-0 margin. LR rounded out their first-half scoring with a goal from Vivien Becker Peralta to run the score to 4-0 where it would hold until the halftime break.
- The Wasps broke through in the 65th minute when sophomore midfielder Karlijn Keuters (The Hague, NETHERLANDS) drilled a shot from outside the box that nestled into the top right corner of the goal to trim the Bears' lead to 4-1. Sophomore forward Kaleea Scales (Maryville, Tenn.) scored her first collegiate goal in the 85th minute on an assist from freshman forward Madie Beale (Virginia Beach, Va.) and the Wasps sliced into the LR advantage once more at 4-2. E&H continued to pressure the Lenoir-Rhyne back line but time ran out on the game clock and the Bears escaped with the 4-2 win.

Emory & Henry Individual Leaders
- Keuters and Beale each fired three shots at the goal to lead the Wasps while Scales and freshman midfielder Katelyn Smith (Ashburn, Va.) recorded a pair of shots.
- Freshman goalkeeper Sophia Wagner (Front Royal, Va.) posted three saves in the first half of play and sophomore Adriana Rehg (Talbott, Tenn.) had one in relief of Wagner in the second half. 

No. 22 Lenoir-Rhyne Individual Leaders
- Hansson and Aly Ramsey each had three shots at the E&H goal during the win. In all, 13 different Bears ended the game with a shot.
- Kristin Oliver tallied three saves in net for the Bears to earn the win while Taylor Rose took over in goal for the second half. 

Up Next
- Emory & Henry hits the road next Wednesday, October 11 when they travel to Greeneville, Tenn. to take on Tusculum University in a South Atlantic Conference showdown. Kickoff is scheduled for 5:00 p.m. as the first game of a doubleheader with the men's team.
