No. 1 Catawba Women's Soccer Escapes Emory & Henry With Narrow 2-1 Victory

EMORY, Va. - The Emory & Henry College Women's Soccer Team (3-8-5, 0-7-3 SAC) took an early lead, but eventually fell to No. 1 nationally-ranked Catawba College (15-1, 10-0 SAC) by a 2-1 scoreline in South Atlantic Conference play on Saturday evening.

How It Happened
- The Wasps were first on the scoreboard in the third minute when freshman forward Madie Beale (Virginia Beach, Va.) beat her defender and slotted a shot past the keeper to give Emory & Henry the 1-0 lead over the nation's top-ranked team. Catawba got a goal back in the 34th minute when Hannah Dunn drew a foul in the box and converted the ensuing penalty kick to even the score at 1-1. Dunn tallied her second goal of the night in the 44th minute on a set piece assisted by Lillie Rusher to give the Lady Catawba Indians the 2-1 halftime lead. 
- The Lady Catawba Indians continued to pressure the E&H back line, but the Wasps were up to the task as they continually repelled the attacks into their area. Neither team could find a goal in the second stanza and the match ended 2-1 in favor of the visitors. 

Emory & Henry Individual Leaders
- Beale led the Wasps with a goal on her lone shot of the evening while senior forward Adrienne Harris (Hillsville, Va.) tallied the other shot for E&H. The back line of sophomores Emery Conklin (Elon, N.C.), Olivia DaSilva (Newton, N.J.), Elise Buonocore (Stephens City, Va.), Dylan Copeland (Salem, Va.) and junior Lucy Dunlop (York, ENGLAND) played a massive game for the home squad as they kept their team in contention until the final whistle. 
- Sophomore goalkeeper Adriana Rehg (Talbott, Tenn.) was huge in goal for Emory & Henry as she not only recorded nine official saves, but made several interceptions of passes into the goal area to prevent any attempts by Catawba from finding the back of the net. 

No. 1 Catawba Individual Leaders
- Dunn recorded a brace with her pair of goals and fired eight shots to lead the Lady Catawba Indians.
- Ashley Hughes made one save in goal in the win.

- Emory & Henry wraps up the 2023 regular season on Wednesday, November 1 at home against Lincoln Memorial University. Kickoff is scheduled for 5:00 p.m. as game one of a SAC doubleheader with the men's team.
