
LEXINGTON, Va. - Playing its second NCAA Division I opponent in three days, the Emory & Henry University Women's Soccer Team (0-0, 0-0 SAC) completed its preseason slate at Virginia Military Institute (3-0, 0-0 SoCon) Saturday afternoon. The match was counted as an exhibition for the Wasps and a regular season contest for the Keydets. The home team held off the visitors from Emory for a 2-0 victory.

How It Happened
- The Keydets began the game on the offensive, firing five shots in the opening 15 minutes of the opening half. VMI broke through in the 18th minute when Cadee Hegarty found Caroline Marini who buried a shot to make it 1-0. The Keydets held the majority of the possession throughout the opening stanza, but the E&H defense stood tall to keep the deficit at just one goal after 45 minutes of action.
- The Wasps continued to batten down the hatches defensively to begin the second frame, as they repelled multiple attacking chances from VMI. The home team added a second tally in the 71st minute on a goal from Riley Boucher, assisted by Audrey Davis. The game would end 2-0 in favor of VMI.
Emory & Henry Individual Leaders
- Senior midfielder Karlijn Keuters (The Hague, NETHERLANDS), senior forward Bridgette West (Fincastle, Va.) and junior midfielder Adriana Blumer (Harrisburg, N.C.) all recorded a shot on the afternoon.
- Junior Adriana Rehg (Talbott, Tenn.) and sophomores Ava Puskas (Chesapeake, Va.) and Sophia Wagner (Front Royal, Va.) combined to make four saves in goal for the Wasps.
Virginia Military Individual Leaders
- Marini paced the Keydets with her goal on three shots. Isabella Bruzonic had a trio of attempts while Boucher and Mia Ortega also contributed a pair of shots.
- Whitney Tracy earned the shutout in goal for VMI.

- Emory & Henry gets its 2024 regular season underway on Thursday, September 5 when they travel to Durham, North Carolina to take on the Bears of Shaw University. Kickoff is scheduled for 5:00 p.m. as game one of a doubleheader with the men's team.
