EMORY, Va. - The Emory & Henry University Women's Soccer Team (4-2-1, 1-1-1 SAC) picked up its second South Atlantic Conference victory of the year Wednesday evening as the Wasps took down Carson-Newman University (4-2-1, 1-1-1 SAC) inside of Fred Selfe Stadium. E&H capitalized on a Carson-Newman own goal in the opening half and tallied a long-distance wondergoal from junior defender Olivia DaSilva (Newton, N.J.) to earn the 2-0 win. The win vaulted the Wasps into third place in the SAC standings.

How It Happened
- The Eagles began the match with the majority of possession, outshooting the Wasps 5-0 in the opening 18 minutes of play but the match remained 0-0. E&H was first on the scoreboard in the 24th minute. A Carson-Newman foul awarded a free kick opportunity for the Wasps on the Eagles' half of the pitch. DaSilva delivered a dangerous ball into the 18-yard box that was deflected off of the head of a C-N defender and nestled into the net to put the home team ahead 1-0. The E&H defense held the visitors without a shot the remainder of the half and took the one-goal margin into the halftime break.
- Carson-Newman once more was the instigator on the offensive end of the pitch as the Eagles fired five shots in the opening 17 minutes of the stanza but the Wasps' defense was up to the task, keeping the visitors off of the scoreboard. E&H struck again in the 66th minute. A foul by Carson-Newman gave the Wasps another opportunity to put a ball into the box. DaSilva stepped up and launched a shot from 40 yards out that bounced one time and beat the keeper to increase the Wasps' lead to 2-0. The E&H defense put in a yeoman's effort throughout the match as they continually repelled any attacking attempts from the Eagles to seal the 2-0 shutout victory.
Emory & Henry Individual Leaders
- DaSilva recorded her goal on a pair of shots, both of which were on target. Sophomore midfielder Charlotte Stavis (Charlotte, N.C.) had a game-high six shots and put two of those attempts on frame. Junior forward Riley Firebaugh (Roanoke, Va.) registered the other E&H shot.
- Sophomore goalkeeper Ava Puskas (Chesapeake, Va.) made four saves in net for the Wasps for her second shutout of the year.
- The defensive back line of DaSilva, junior Elise Buonocore (Stephens City, Va.), sophomore Bella Fairley (Chesapeake, Va.) and freshman Maddie Haldeman (Richmond Hill, Ga.) was outstanding all night as they were all over the pitch to break up any goal-scoring attempts from the Eagles.

- Berna Kabakci finished with three saves for Carson-Newman in the loss.
