Coker Women's Soccer Defeats Emory & Henry, 3-0, Sunday Afternoon

EMORY, Va. - The Emory & Henry University Women's Soccer Team (4-3-1, 2-2 SAC) dropped its South Atlantic Conference match to Coker University (5-3-1, 2-3 SAC) inside of Fred Selfe Stadium Sunday afternoon. The Cobras tallied three second-half goals to earn the 3-0 victory.

How It Happened
- Both teams were slow out of the gate as they struggled to create scoring chances. The squads slowly grew into the game and the Cobras held a narrow 3-1 advantage on shots through the opening 15 minutes of play. The defenses locked down to prevent any more attempts through the middle stages and a shot from senior midfielder Lucy Dunlop (York, ENGLAND) was saved by Coker goalkeeper Rhyan Parkin to keep the match scoreless heading into the halftime break.
- Coker broke through on the scoreboard in the 71st minute when Kira Boelke found the back of the net to give the visitors the 1-0 lead. The Cobras added a second in the 80th minute on a goal from Maia Clark, assisted by Mac Gies to increase the margin out to 2-0. CU put the finishing touches on the game in the 90th minute on Boelke's second tally of the match on an assist from Silke Nielsen for the 3-0 final score.

Emory & Henry Individual Leaders
- Sophomore midfielder Charlotte Stavis (Charlotte, N.C.) paced the Wasps with four shots, one of which was on target. Senior midfielder Karlijn Keuters (The Hague, NETHERLANDS) added three shots while Dunlop finished with a pair of attempts.
- Sophomore Ava Puskas (Chesapeake, Va.) recorded seven saves in goal for the Wasps despite the loss.

Coker Individual Leaders
- Boelke posted a pair of goals on five attempts at the goal while Clark scored her goal on six shots. Gies added three shots while Nielsen and Chloe Mullen each recorded a pair of shots.
- Parkin finished the match with five saves in goal to earn the win.

Up Next
- Emory & Henry returns to action this Wednesday, October 9 when they travel to take on border rival King (Tenn.) University. Kickoff is scheduled for 4:00 p.m. from Parks Field.
