Stavis’ Brace Of Goals Propels Emory & Henry Women’s Soccer To Border Rivalry Win Over King (Tenn.)

BRISTOL, Tenn. - The Emory & Henry University Women's Soccer Team (5-3-1) picked up a win over border rival King (Tenn.) University (0-6-1) in non-conference play Wednesday afternoon. The Wasps tallied one goal in the first half and another in the second on their way to the 2-1 victory.

How It Happened
- The Wasps controlled the opening 30 minutes of play as they maintained the lion's share of possession of the ball and fired three shots on target compared to just one for the Tornado. E&H broke through in the 31st minute when sophomore midfielder Charlotte Stavis (Charlotte, N.C.) curled a shot from distance past the King keeper into the right netting to put the visitors from Emory on top 1-0. King struck back in the 42 minute on a goal from Victoria Thauer and the two teams were deadlocked at 1-1 heading into the half.
- E&H continued to create chances, outshooting King 6-2 over the first 30 minutes of the second frame, but could not find the go-ahead goal. Stavis came up big once more in the 78th minute, slotting a shot past the keeper to retake the lead 2-1. The Wasps' defense locked down any further attempts for the home team to clinch the win. 

Emory & Henry Individual Leaders
- Stavis led the way with her fourth and fifth goals of the season on seven shots, five of which found the target. Senior midfielder Olivia Haynes (Spotsylvania, Va.) finished with three shots while fellow senior midfielder Karlijn Keuters (The Hague, NETHERLANDS) added a pair of attempts.
- Junior goalkeeper Adriana Rehg (Talbott, Tenn.) recorded four saves in goal to earn her second win of the season.

King (Tenn.) Individual Leaders
- Thauer scored the lone goal of the afternoon for the Tornado on her only attempt of the game. Rachel Radow and Mackenzie Winters each had four shots in the losing effort.
- Olivia Seston suffered the loss for the Tornado after making six saves in between the pipes.

Up Next
- Emory & Henry returns to South Atlantic Conference play this Saturday, October 12 when they travel to the Palmetto State to take on the Saints of Limestone University. Kickoff is scheduled for 5:00 p.m. from Saints Field.
