EMORY, Va. - The Emory & Henry University Women's Soccer Team (5-5-1, 2-4 SAC) took an early lead, but could not hold on as the Wasps fell to Tusculum University (3-7-1, 1-4-1 SAC) in South Atlantic Conference play on a chilly Wednesday night inside of Fred Selfe Stadium. The Pioneers tallied a pair of second-half goals to earn the 2-1 win.

How It Happened
- The Wasps wasted no time getting on the scoreboard as senior midfielder Karlijn Keuters (The Hague, NETHERLANDS) received a pass from junior defender Dylan Copeland (Salem, Va.) and fired a shot that took a deflection and looped into the back of the net to give E&H the early 1-0 advantage with just 5:48 elapsed off of the clock. The home team continued to pressure the Tusculum back line as the Wasps recorded seven shots in the opening 17 minutes of play. TU goalkeeper Angel Chase kept the Pioneers in the match, making several big saves to keep the deficit at just one goal. E&H took a 13-2 shot advantage and 1-0 lead into the halftime break.
- The Wasps picked up where they left off in the opening stages of the second half. E&H registered five more shots in the first nine minutes of the stanza, but could not add to its lead. Tusculum struck back in the 61st minute when Sydney Grant fed a pass to Addison Rishling, who fired a bouncing ball that found the net to level the score at 1-1. The home team never relented with the offensive attack as the Wasps had shot after shot, but Chase was up to the task every time to keep the score 1-1. Rishling broke the Wasps' hearts in the 87th minute as she buried another shot to put Tusculum ahead for good 2-1.
Emory & Henry Individual Leaders
- Stavis paced the Wasps with nine shots, five of which were on target. Keuters and sophomore forward Hana Kirsch (Powell, Tenn.) posted five shots each while senior midfielder Olivia Haynes (Spotsylvania, Va.) added three attempts. The Wasps finished with a 28-8 advantage in the shots column.
- Sophomore goalkeeper Sophia Wagner (Front Royal, Va.) recorded four saves in goal for the Wasps.
Tusculum Individual Leaders
- Rishling was the catalyst for the Pioneers on the offensive end as she had a brace of goals on three shots. Marja Enste and Grant fired a pair of shots in support.
- Chase was huge in net for Tusculum, finishing the night with 10 saves to earn the win.

- Emory & Henry is back in action this Saturday, October 19 when they travel to Salisbury, N.C. to take on No. 21 nationally-ranked Catawba College. Kickoff is scheduled for 1:00 p.m. as game one of a doubleheader with the men's squad.
