How It Happened
- The squads wasted no time as they each fired three shots at the opponent's goal in the opening 20 minutes of play, but neither could find the back of the net. Sophomore forward Charlotte Stavis (Charlotte, N.C.) unleashed a shot in the 20th minute that was saved by Newberry goalkeeper Sarah Waller to keep things level. The Wasps had another opportunity to break through in the 40th minute on a shot from Dunlop, but once again Waller was up to the task and the score remained 0-0 at the half.
- Junior forward Kaleea Scales (Maryville, Tenn.) had a golden chance to open the scoring just 97 seconds into the second half, but her shot rose just over the crossbar. Newberry took control over the following 20 minutes, outshooting the Wasps by a 4-0 margin but still the score held at 0-0. Junior midfielder Hailey Hamilton (Elkwood, Va.) forced Waller into action again in the 74th minute as her shot seemed destined for the upper right corner of the goal, but the Wolves' keeper parried it away. The two teams tallied a total of eight shots over the final 16 minutes of play, but none were on target and the match ended in the 0-0 tie.
