Emory & Henry Women’s Soccer Rolls To 4-0 Shutout Win Over Bluefield State Wednesday

BLUEFIELD, W.Va. – The Emory & Henry University Women's Soccer Team (3-1) stayed perfect in non-conference play Wednesday afternoon as they picked up a big road win over Bluefield State University (1-4). The Wasps scored once in the first half and three more times in the second on their way to a 4-0 shutout win.

How It Happened
- Junior forward Siena Booth (Wesley Chapel, Fla.) opened the scoring for the Wasps in the 18th minute as she scored unassisted to put the visitors from Emory on top 1-0. E&H continued to create scoring chances, outshooting the Big Blue 5-2 over the remainder of the half, but neither team could convert and the score held at 1-0 heading into the break.
- Emory & Henry picked up where they left off to begin the second, firing eight shots at the Bluefield State net in the first 20 minutes of action. Junior forward/midfielder Charlotte Stavis (Charlotte, N.C.) broke through in the 66th minute as she scored an unassisted tally, her fifth of the season, to make it 2-0. Freshman forward Bailey Springman (Sarasota, Fla.) followed suit in the 71st minute as she scored her first collegiate goal on an assist from sophomore midfielder Cristina Ciofani (Oakville, Ontario, CANADA) to increase the Wasps' lead to 3-0. Freshman midfielder Anjelika DeJesus (Las Vegas, Nev.) sealed the deal for Emory & Henry in the 88th minute as she stepped up and converted a penalty kick for her first collegiate tally to give the Wasps the 4-0 shutout victory. 

Emory & Henry Individual Leaders
- Stavis paced the offense with 13 shots, seven on target, and her South Atlantic Conference-leading fifth goal of the season. Booth finished with three shots and her fourth goal of the year, placing her in a tie for second in the SAC. Springman and DeJesus each recorded one goal on a pair of shots.
- Senior goalkeeper Adriana Rehg (Talbott, Tenn.) made three saves in net to earn her first win and shutout of the season. 

Bluefield State Individual Leaders
- Kali Booker, Grace Moore and Janiya Pace each had a pair of shots to lead the Big Blue.
- Kaycee Coty posted a staggering 17 saves in goal to help keep her team in the contest.

- The Wasps return to South Atlantic Conference play on Saturday, September 20 when they welcome the Bears of Lenoir-Rhyne University to Emory for a conference showdown. Kickoff is scheduled for 5:00 p.m. from the Food City Sports Complex.
