Emory & Henry Women’s Swimming Finishes Second At The ODAC Relays

LEXINGTON, Va. – The Emory & Henry College Women's Swimming Team saw its first action of the 2013-14 season as it finished second out of nine teams at the ODAC Relays Saturday afternoon. Though only three of the 10 events were NCAA sanctioned, the meet served as the unofficial kickoff for Old Dominion Athletic Conference swimming.

Hosts Washington and Lee University won the meet while Randolph-Macon College, Bridgewater College and Greensboro College rounded out the top five.

The Wasps won five of the 10 events including all three of the NCAA-sanctioned races. In the 400-yard freestyle relay, E&H broke the school record, swimming a 3:42.42 with the squad of freshman Jessica Richardson (Vero Beach, Fla.), sophomore Payton Shirey (Seaford, Del.), freshman Allison Fowler (Morristown, Tenn.) and freshman Michaela Nolte (Hillsborough, N.C.).

E&H also broke two of Washington and Lee's pool records with their other wins. Their swim in the 400-yard free relay was a new top time for the Generals' facility while the same four swimmers turned in a 200-yard freestyle relay time of 1:40.80.

Emory & Henry also won the 200-yard medley relay with a time of 1:54.02 thanks to the efforts of freshman Liz Kleveno (Fredericksburg, Va.), Nolte, Richardson and Shirey.

In the first race of the day, the 150-yard butterfly relay, the Wasps claimed first with a time of 1:22.31. E&H also turned in the fastest time in the 150-yard breastroke relay (1:37.76).

The Wasps will have their first official meet of the season on Friday afternoon when they host the Panthers of Ferrum College. The meet is scheduled to begin at 5:00 p.m.
