EMORY, Va. – The Emory & Henry College Women's Swimming Team (1-0) won all 11 events in its meet with Ferrum College Friday afternoon at the E&H Aquatics Center. The Wasps defeated the Panthers by a 159-37 score, breaking six school records in the process. E&H finished first and second in every individual event of the meet.

Emory & Henry got out to a quick start with a school record in the 200-meter medley relay. A squad of four freshmen: Jessica Richardson (Vero Beach, Fla.), Liz Kleveno (Fredericksburg, Va.), Allison Fowler (Morristown, Tenn.) and Michaela Nolte (Hillsborough, N.C.) notched a time of 2:10.08 in the event.

Sophomores Taylor Guardalabene (Charlotte, N.C.) and Nicole Powell (Apex, N.C.) went 1-2 in the 800-meter freestyle while Nolte and fellow freshman Jordan Greenburg (Cordova, Tenn.) finished first and second, respectively in the 200-meter freestyle.  Sophomore Payton Shirey (Seaford, Del.) and freshman Kia Hamilton (Memphis, Tenn.) had the two fastest swims in the 50-meter freestyle.

The Wasps broke their second record of the day when Fowler clocked a 2:34.19 in the 200-meter individual medley as Powell finished second. E&H made it two-straight events with broken records as Nolte (1:09.32) and Fowler (1:09.79) both came in under the previous record in the 100-meter butterfly.

In the 100-meter freestyle, Richardson recorded a time of 1:01.99 for a new school best while Shirey was second. Emory & Henry saw a record fall in the fourth-straight event in the 100-yard backstroke as Kleveno (1:11.34) and Greenburg (1:14.43) each went faster than the previous top time. Freshman Olivia Shumate (North Wilkesboro, N.C.) made it a 1-2-3 finish for the Wasps.

Guardalabene won the 400-meter freestyle with Powell taking second, as Powell turned on the jets in the closing meters to beat third place by .14 seconds. Freshman Lauren Blakey (Davidson, N.C.) was fourth in both the 800- and 400-free.

Kleveno earned her second individual school record of the day as she clocked a 1:23.27 in the 100-meter breaststroke. Hamilton was second while sophomore Sophia Alonge (Vienna, Va.) made it a sweep for the Wasps, finishing third.

The 200-meter freestyle relay of Shirey, Guardalabene, Shumate and sophomore Sam Brown (Memphis, Tenn.) claimed the top spot in the final event of the evening with their time of 2:00.62, just 1.04 seconds away from felling another record.

Emory & Henry will return to the pool on Saturday afternoon at 1:00 p.m., when it hosts Old Dominion Athletic Conference foe, Bridgewater College. The Eagles were the only team to defeat the Wasps in a dual meet last season and edged them by four points at the ODAC Championships.
