Emory & Henry Women’s Swimming Sinks Hollins, 164-41, Friday Afternoon

EMORY, Va. – The Emory & Henry College Women's Swimming Team (3-0, 2-0 ODAC) rolled to an easy 164-41 victory over visiting Hollins University Friday afternoon in an Old Dominion Athletic Conference swim meet at the E&H Aquatics Center. The Wasps won all 11 events as no Hollins swimmer finished in front of an E&H cap.

Instead of the normal 100-meter swims of the backstroke, breaststroke and butterfly, the coaches agreed to 50-meter lengths of the strokes.

Emory & Henry started things off with a record-breaking swim in the 400-meter medley relay. The all-freshman team of Jordan Greenburg (Cordova, Tenn.), Liz Kleveno (Fredericksburg, Va.), Allison Fowler (Morristown, Tenn.) and Jessica Richardson (Vero Beach, Fla.) notched a time of 4:46.69 to set a new record for the Wasps.

E&H had seven individual events that it went 1-2-3 in including the 800-meter freestyle (won by Kleveno), the 50-meter freestyle (claimed by reigning ODAC Swimmer of the week Michaela Nolte (Hillsborough, N.C.)), the 200-meter individual medley (won by Richardson) the 100-meter freestyle (won by Fowler) and the 400-meter freestyle (also won by Kleveno).

The Wasps wrapped things up with a record-setting performance in the 400-meter freestyle relay. Sophomore Payton Shirey (Seaford, Del.), freshman Kia Hamilton (Memphis, Tenn.), Fowler and sophomore Sam Brown (Memphis, Tenn.) clocked a 4:35.59 in the event.

Emory & Henry will return to the pool next Saturday afternoon when it hosts Sweet Briar College and Guilford College in a ODAC double-dual format meet. The first start is set for 1:00 p.m.
