Emory & Henry Women’s Swimming Sweeps A Double-Dual Saturday Afternoon

EMORY, Va. – The Emory & Henry College Women's Swimming Team (5-0, 4-0 ODAC) picked up a pair of Old Dominion Athletic Conference dual meet wins on Saturday afternoon at the E&H Aquatics Center. The Wasps defeated Sweet Briar College, 129-62, and took down Guilford College, 136-48.

Having completed the home portion of its schedule, Emory & Henry has yet to lose a race in dual competition with 44-straight event wins.

The Wasps broke two records on the afternoon, the first coming in the 800-meter freestyle. Freshman Allison Fowler (Morristown, Tenn.) clocked a 9:59.32 to beat the previous mark by nearly eight seconds. Freshman Jessica Richardson (Vero Beach, Fla.) trimmed her own record  in the 100-meter backstroke, swimming a 1:10.11.

Emory & Henry nearly had a third record in the 200-meter medley relay to lead off the day. The squad of freshman Liz Kleveno (Fredericksburg, Va.), freshman Michaela Nolte (Hillsborough, N.C.), sophomore Taylor Guardalabene (Charlotte, N.C.) and sophomore Payton Shirey (Seaford, Del.) was just .85 seconds behind the school's best-ever swim.

E&H went 1-2 overall in five of the 11 events including a 1-2-3 finish in the 100-back. The Wasps also finished first and second in the 200-meter medley relay, 200-meter individual medley, 100-meter butterfly and 100-meter breaststroke.

Emory & Henry will face off against NCAA Division II King (Tenn.) University next Friday evening at the Harry L. Coomes Center in Abingdon. The Wasps took down the Lady Tornado by a 96-83 score last season. The first race is set to begin at 6:00 p.m.
