Eight From Emory & Henry Women’s Swimming Named To All-ODAC Teams

FOREST, Va. – The Emory & Henry College Women's Swimming team has seen eight of its 13 members named to the All-Old Dominion Athletic Conference teams, ODAC officials announced Monday. Six Wasps were named to the All-ODAC First Team, second only to Washington and Lee University's nine first-team selections. Greensboro College, Randolph-Macon College and Sweet Briar College each had one first-team honoree.

The all-conference teams were determined by placement in events at the 2014 ODAC Swimming Championships. Those placing first or second in individual events earned first team distinction, while third and fourth place finishers were tabbed to the second team. The third team is comprised of fifth and sixth place swimmers.

Freshman Allison Fowler (Morristown, Tenn.) and freshman Michaela Nolte (Hillsborough, N.C.) headlined the award winners for Emory & Henry as they were named ODAC Swimmer of the Year and ODAC Rookie of the Year, respectively. Both won two of their three individual events and earned a pair of NCAA "B" Qualifying Standards en route to setting E&H and ODAC records. They were on both of the Wasps' ODAC-Champion relays as well.

Joining Fowler and Nolte on the first team are sophomore Taylor Guardalabene (Charlotte, N.C.), freshman Liz Kleveno (Fredericksburg, Va.), freshman Jessica Richardson (Vero Beach. Fla.) and sophomore Payton Shirey (Seaford, Del.).

Freshman Jordan Greenburg (Cordova, Tenn.) and sophomore Nicole Powell (Apex, N.C.) earned all-conference honors as well, as they earned a spot on the third team.

It is the second-straight year that Guardalabene and Shirey have been on the All-ODAC First Team while Powell is third-team all-league for a second time as well.

On the weekend, Emory & Henry won six events (four individual, two relays) with 11 new program-best swims. The Wasps also set new ODAC record marks in the 50-yard freestyle, 100-yard breaststroke, 200-yard breaststroke, 400-yard individual medley, 400-yard freestyle relay and 400-yard medley relay.

Sweet Briar's Jason Gallaher received ODAC Coach of the Year honors. Washington and Lee's Stephanie Foster garnered ODAC/Farm Bureau Insurance Scholar-Athlete accolades from the league's sports information directors, and Guilford College's Morgan McKinnon received the Bonnie Kestner Sportsmanship Award.
