Emory & Henry Women’s Swimming Earns Two Wins In A Double Dual At Sweet Briar Saturday

SWEET BRIAR, Va. – The Emory & Henry College Women's Swimming Team (4-0, 4-0 ODAC) remained perfect with a pair of dual meet wins over Sweet Briar College and Guilford College Saturday afternoon at the Prothro Natatorium. The Wasps defeated the host Vixens, 164-41, and claimed a 167-22 win over the Quakers.

Emory & Henry won all 11 races in the meet and went 1-2 in the 200-meter medley relay. The individual events were dominated by the Wasps as E&H swimmers went 1-2 in four events and 1-2-3 in four others.

Sophomores Allison Fowler (Morristown, Tenn.) and Michaela Nolte (Hillsborough, N.C.) each picked up a pair of individual wins on the day and swam on a first-place relay. Fowler won the 200-meter individual medley (2:33.81) with a time that was just .37 seconds shy of a record and the 100-meter butterfly (1:09.73), going .61 seconds off the best E&H mark. Nolte earned a first-place finish in the 100-meter freestyle, swimming a 1:02.76 to .77 behind the school record. Her swim of 1:20.45 in the 100-meter breaststroke was also good for the win.

Junior Taylor Guardalabene (Charlotte, N.C.) won the 800-meter freestyle in 10:03.74. In the 200-meter freestyle, freshmen Mackenzie Lingle (Roanoke, Va.) and Holly Roth (Albuquerque, N.M.) were just .12 seconds apart (2:15.64 and 2:15.76, respectively), clearing the rest of the field by nearly 13 seconds.

In the 50-meter freestyle, the Wasps took the top three spots with junior Payton Shirey (Seaford, Del.) leading the way in :28.82. Freshman Marina Moore (Thomasville, N.C.), who was second in the 50-meter freestyle, won the 100-meter backstroke in a time of 1:12.13. Sophomore Jordan Greenburg (Cordova, Tenn.) was second in the 100-back (1:12.25). Roth tallied a win in the 400-meter freestyle as she put up a time of 4:53.48 to go along with her runner-up finish in the 200-free.

The 200-meter medley relay of Moore, Nolte, Shirey and Roth notched a time of 2:12.14 while Lingle, Shirey, Fowler and Guardalabene went 1:57.02 in the 200-meter freestyle relay.

E&H will have its first home meet of the year next Friday when it hosts Ferrum College and King University at the Emory & Henry Aquatics Center in the John Rutledge King Center. The first race is scheduled for a 5:00 p.m., start.
