Emory & Henry Women’s Swimming Remains In Second After Day Two Of 2015 ODAC Championship

GREENSBORO, N.C. – The Emory & Henry College Women's Swimming Team remains in second place after day two of the 2015 Old Dominion Athletic Conference Championship. The Wasps added another event win and broke four more school records in the process.

The Wasps started the night off with a second-place finish in the 200-yard medley relay. The team of sophomore Jessica Richardson (Vero Beach, Fla.), freshman Kelsey Jones (Roanoke, Va.), sophomore Allison Fowler (Morristown, Tenn.) and junior Payton Shirey (Seaford, Del.) posted a time of 1:48.56, finishing just .15 seconds off the E&H record.

In the 400-yard individual medley, Fowler swam a 4:36.75 to finish second. Her swim was just .06 seconds off of a NCAA Division III "B" Qualifying Standard. Junior Taylor Guardalabene (Charlotte, N.C.) was third (4:37.48) while Jones claimed seventh (4:50.57).

Freshman Mackenzie Lingle (Roanoke, Va.) notched an Emory & Henry-record swim of :58.19 in the 100-yard butterfly to finish fifth. She bested her preliminary time of :59.21, which was also a school record. Junior Nicole Powell (Apex, N.C.) finished 10th in the event, swimming a 1:00.93 while Shirey went 1:03.19 to finish 12th.

In the 200-yard freestyle, freshman Holly Roth (Albuquerque, N.M.) posted a time of 1:58.88 which was good for fourth place. Junior Sam Brown (Memphis, Tenn.) finished eighth in the event  as she swam a 2:06.81 while sophomore Lauren Blakey (Davidson, N.C.) was 15th, clocking a 2:16.28.

Nolte made it back-to-back wins in the 100-yard breaststroke as she successfully defended her title from a year ago. She also broke her own ODAC record in the event, going 1:05.23 in the finals to better her "B" Cut from the Union Winter Invitational. Jones was fifth in the event (1:09.12) while freshman Brianna Chessock (Winston-Salem, N.C.) finished seventh (1:12.24). There were two Wasps in the consolation finals of the 100-breast as well with sophomore Kia Hamilton (Memphis, Tenn.) finishing 12th (1:15.69) and junior Sophia Alonge (Vienna, Va.) finishing 16th (1:18.24).

Richardson went :59.73 in the finals of the 100-yard backstroke, finishing fourth overall while freshman Marina Moore (Thomasville, N.C.) finished eighth (1:02.04) and sophomore Jordan Greenburg (Cordova, Tenn.) took 11th (1:02.07).

The Wasps concluded the evening with another school record, this time in the 800-yard freestyle relay. Lingle, Fowler, Roth and Nolte stopped the watches with a time of 7:46.99, finishing as the conference runner-up.

Emory & Henry will conclude the 2015 ODAC Championship on Sunday. Six more event winners will be decided and the overall conference champion will be crowned.
