Jessica Richardson Named ODAC Women’s Swimmer of the Week

FOREST, Va. – Emory & Henry College senior Jessica Richardson has been selected as the Old Dominion Athletic Conference Women's Swimmer of the Week, ODAC officials announced Monday. It is the fourth time this year that an E&H swimmer has won the award and marks the second time in Richardson's career.

The Vero Beach, Florida native and three-time All-ODAC First-Team selection earned a pair of individual wins and was part of a relay victory Friday as the Wasps swept a double-dual against King (Tenn.) University and Milligan College. The Wasps won eight of the 11 events on the day against their scholarship opponents.

Richardson swam the backstroke leg of the 200-meter medley relay in :31.53 to lead E&H to a win in 2:13.46. She put up a time of 2:17.85 in the 200-meter freestyle to take the top spot in that event as well. The Vero Beach High School graduate got her third win in record fashion, beating her own best time in the 100-meter backstroke with a swim of 1:08.22. Richardson previously broke the E&H record in the 100-meter back just 13 days earlier.

Emory & Henry will next compete at the 2017 Old Dominion Athletic Conference Championships which will be held at the Greensboro Aquatic Center. The three-day, 18-event meet will run from Friday, February 10 to Sunday, February 12 with preliminaries in the morning and finals in the evening.
