GREENSBORO, N.C. – The Emory & Henry College Women's Swimming team has seen six of the 10 members who competed at the 2017 Old Dominion Athletic Conference Championships named to the All-ODAC Teams, league officials announced late Sunday night. Two Wasps were named to the All-ODAC First Team, joining 11 athletes from Washington and Lee University. E&H also saw one swimmer tabbed to the all-league second team while three earned third-team honors.
The all-conference teams were determined by placement in events at the 2017 ODAC Swimming Championships. Those placing first or second in individual events earned first team distinction, while third and fourth place finishers were tabbed to the second team. The third team is comprised of fifth and sixth place swimmers.
Senior Michaela Nolte (Hillsborough, N.C.) earned All-ODAC First Team accolades for the fourth year in a row after winning the 100-yard and 200-yard breaststroke and taking third in the 50-yard freestyle. She broke the E&H and ODAC Record in the 200-breaststroke with a time of 2:19.43. Following this weekend's championship, Nolte has NCAA "B Cuts" in both breaststroke events and is ranked 13th in the 200-breast and 20th in the 100-breast.
Additionally, Nolte received the ODAC/Virginia Farm Bureau Insurance Scholar-Athlete of the Year award, voted on by the league's sports information directors, which highlights athletic achievement, performance in the classroom and involvement in the community. She is the first swimmer from E&H to receive the recognition.
Senior Jessica Richardson (Vero Beach, Fla.) made it four-straight All-ODAC First Team nods after taking second in the 100-yard backstroke and finishing third in the 100-yard freestyle and fifth in the 50-yard freestyle.
On the all-league second team was junior Brianna Chessock (Winston-Salem, N.C.), who had a best finish of fourth in the 200-yard breaststroke.
The Wasps received three spots on the All-ODAC Third Team. Freshman Olivia Anson (Apex, N.C.) took fifth in the 100-yard freestyle, senior Jordan Greenburg (Cordova, Tenn.) was sixth in the 1,650-yard freestyle and junior Kelsey Jones (Roanoke, Va.) was sixth in the 200-yard breaststroke.
On the weekend, Emory & Henry won two events with five second-place finishes. The Wasps also set a new ODAC record in the 200-yard breaststroke, posted a new school-best time in the 100-yard backstroke and tied the E&H record for the 100-yard freestyle.
Washington and Lee's Emily Rollo was named the ODAC Swimmer of the Year and Generals' freshman Ali MacQueen was the ODAC Rookie of the Year. W&L Head Coach Kami Gardner was tabbed as the ODAC Coach of the Year. The Bonnie Kestner Sportsmanship Award went to Dani Raymond from Hollins University.
