
LEXINGTON, Va. – The Emory & Henry College Women's Swimming Team got its first taste of action for the 2017-18 season Saturday at the ODAC Relays, hosted by Washington and Lee University. The Wasps finished fifth out of 11 competing schools.

The Results
- The meet served as the unofficial kickoff for ODAC swimming, although only three of the 10 events were NCAA sanctioned. The official events were the 200-yard freestyle relay, 400-yard freestyle relay and 200-yard medley relay.
- Emory & Henry earned a pair of second-place finishes and were third in another two races.
- The Wasps got their first runner-up finish in the 3x50-yard breaststroke. The team of seniors Brianna Chessock (Winston-Salem, N.C.) and Kelsey Jones (Roanoke, Va.) and sophomore Savannah Scarbrough (Crozet, Va.) clocked a 1:40.91.
- In the 400-yard freestyle relay, senior Mackenzie Lingle (Roanoke, Va.), Chessock, freshman Sarah Helfert (Hickory, N.C.) and sophomore Olivia Anson (Apex, N.C.) stopped the watches in 3:48.41 to take second.
- E&H was third in the 200-yard freestyle relay with a time of 1:45.94 with Anson, Helfert, Chessock and Lingle comprising the team.
- The Wasps notched also notched a third-place finish in the 3x100-yard individual medley thanks to the efforts of Anson, Scarbrough and Chessock (3:17.51).
Next Up
- Emory & Henry will have its first official meet of the year when it travels to the Sewanee Invitational on the weekend of Friday, October 27 and Saturday, October 28.
