Emory & Henry Women's Swimming Sixth, Men Seventh After Friday At 2020 ODAC Championships

GREENSBORO, N.C. – The Emory & Henry College Men's & Women's Swimming Teams are fully immersed in the 2019-20 postseason after the first two days of the Old Dominion Athletic Conference Championships Friday. The women currently sit in sixth of 12 teams while the men are seventh out of 11 competing squads.

For the first time ever, the meet has been extended to seven sessions across four days. Thursday evening's action was a timed-final swim of the 800-yard freestyle relay.

The Men – Thursday
- Event 1 – 800-Yard Freestyle Relay – Freshman Ryan Spangler (Daleville, Va.), senior Nick Barr (Chilhowie, Va.) and sophomores Nick Moore (Lebanon, Va.) and Blake Madaris (Acworth, Ga.) swam an 8:28.33 to take 9th in the opening race of the meet.

The Women – Thursday
- Event 2 – 800-Yard Freestyle Relay – Freshmen Kenzie Welch (Knoxville, Tenn.) and Kate Prager (Concord, N.C.), sophomore Leah Mumpower (Bristol, Va.) and junior Lauren Trotter (Bristol, Va.) took seventh place in 8:47.69.

The Men - Friday
- Event 3 – 200-Yard Freestyle Relay – Sophomore Braxton Justice (Spanishburg, W.Va.) and freshmen Ryan Spangler (Daleville, Va.), Noah Wilson (Frederick, Md.) and Antonio Walters (Elon, N.C.) set a new school record with a swim of 1:32.29, nearly one second better than the previous mark, to finish seventh.
- Event 5 – 500-Yard Freestyle – Madaris went a 5:28.59 in preliminaries to finish 19th.
- Event 7 – 200-Yard Individual Medley – Freshman Luc Grillet (Matthews, N.C.) finished 13th, posting a school-record time of 2:04.18.
- Event 9 – 50-Yard Freestyle –
Justice went a :22.48 in preliminaries to take 23rd while Walters was 26th, freshman Jackson Cheatham (Appomattox, Va.) was 32nd, Barr was 38th and Moore was 40th.
- Event 11 – 400-Yard Medley Relay – Wilson, Grillet, Walters and Justice took sixth place with a school-record swim of 3:41.37.

The Women - Friday
- Event 4 – 200-Yard Freestyle Relay – Senior Olivia Anson (Apex, N.C.), Mumpower, Welch and sophomore Anne-Louise Tunstall (Mount Airy, N.C.) claimed fifth-place with a swim of 1:44.60
- Event 6 – 500-Yard Freestyle – Anson finished 10th with a time of 5:18.11 while Welch was 15th (5:28.95). Trotter took 27th while Prager was 28th and freshman Hannah Patton (Marion, Va.) was 31st in prelims.
- Event 8 – 200-Yard Individual Medley – Tunstall posted a 15th place finish with a time of 2:21.71. Sophomore Cat Sweigart (Bridgewater, Va.) went 19th and freshman Paige Woodworth (Davidson, N.C.) was 27th in the morning session.
- Event 10 – 50-Yard Freestyle – Mumpower posted a 24th-place finish of :27.05 in the preliminaries while freshman Marley Sterling (Clinton, S.C.) was 48th.
- Event 12 – 400-Yard Medley Relay – Anson, Sweigart, Tunstall and Welch put together a fourth-place finish, stopping the watches in 4:17.20.

- Emory & Henry will continue action in the 2020 ODAC Championships on Saturday with preliminaries beginning at 10:00 a.m., and finals starting at 6:00 p.m.
