Emory & Henry Men’s & Women’s Swimming Sweep Ferrum To Open The Year Saturday

EMORY, Va. – The Emory & Henry College Men's & Women's Swimming Teams got the 2020-21 season started on Saturday as they both picked up lop-sided wins over Ferrum College. The men's team claimed a 104-7 victory while the women won by a 109-67 score.

The Men
- E&H won all 11 events on the day, going 1-2 five times. Juniors Braxton Justice (Spanishburg, W.Va.) and Blake Madaris (Acworth, Ga.) each grabbed three wins on the afternoon.
- Justice took first in the 800-meter freestyle (11:20.52), the 50-meter freestyle (:27.16) and the 100-meter breaststroke (1:20.98).
- Madaris went 2:44.71 in the 200-meter individual medley, 1:15.96 in the 100-back and 5:17.00 in the 400-free to win all three events.
- Senior Logan Smith (Knoxville, Tenn.) picked up victories in the 200-meter freestyle (2:15.84) and the 100-meter butterfly (1:10.19) while taking second in the 400-meter freestyle, swimming the event as an individual medley in 5:38.24.

The Women
- The Wasps went 1-2-3 in one event and claimed the top two spots in two more races on their way to winning nine of 11 events.
- Junior Cat Sweigart (Bridgewater, Va.) put up four wins on the day, including an exhibition victory in the 100-meter breaststroke in 1:23.98. She went back-to-back after that event, anchoring the 200-meter freestyle relay with a time of 2:09.51. Sweigart's other wins came in the 200-meter individual medley (2:47.15) and the 100-meter freestyle (1:09.72).
- Freshman Emy Youmans (Columbia, S.C.) grabbed a trio of victories in her first collegiate meet, leading the Wasps to a victory in the 200-meter medley relay (2:21.01) to start the day. She also on the 200-meter freestyle in 2:23.21 and stopped the watches at 1:11.89 to win the 100-meter butterfly.
- Sophomore Kenzie Welch (Knoxville, Tenn.) also won all three of her races, going 11:02.53 in the 800-meter freestyle, 1:18.34 in the 100-backstroke and swimming the second leg of the 200-meter freestyle relay.

Up Next
- Emory & Henry will be back in action on Friday, February 5 when it hosts King (Tenn.) University. The meet is scheduled to begin at 7:00 p.m.
